San Rafael
Home to the San Rafael Mission, the city of San Rafael is the urban center of Marin County. However, with an abundance of neighborhoods, residents can live close to the downtown action or tucked away in the rolling foothills, many with views of Mt Tam. Downtown nightlife boasts a collection of popular local bars, the world-famous Sol Food Puertican Cuisine restaurant, a local pool hall, and the Rafael Film Center, which showcases many international films. Also in San Rafael is the Marin County Civic center, an architectural wonder designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, which serves as a community center as well as host to the biweekly Marin County Farmers’ Market and neighbor to the Marin County Fairgrounds, which holds events and conventions year-round in additional to the annual county fair every 4th of July weekend.
No matter the speaker or the subject, I always get something out of the Leadership Lecture Series at Dominican University.
Nothing like a grocery store that specializes in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern items! They even have daily prepared food specials.
The Sunday Farmers market at the Civic Center market is the place to be! Great offerings in addition to organic fruit and veggies are flowers, succulents, organic, cheese, poultry and meats, breads and pastries. There is also a Farmer’s Market on Thursdays in Downtown San Rafael.
China Camp has an old-Marin look and feel. Fishing, camping, biking, hiking and catching the beauty of seasonal wildflowers are some of the wonderful activities to enjoy while there.
