Novato
The northernmost area of Marin County, Novato is about 30 miles north of San Francisco. Residents enjoy a quick drive to its neighbors in the Sonoma wine country and coastal West Marin. More inland and protected than Marin’s southern towns, Novato is shielded from much of the Bay’s fog, yielding the warmest summer season that Marin has to offer. Bel Marin Keys, one of Novato’s “hidden gem” neighborhoods, is a waterfront community with homes that resemble coastal vacation homes. For the outdoorsmen and women, Novato is home to almost 30 parks, over 3000 acres of open nature space, camping- and fishing-friendly Stafford Lake, and countless hiking and biking trails. Downtown Novato is filled with local small businesses, and along with its Town Hall, weekly farmer’s markets, and theatre company, Novato offers a small-town feel within a vibrant community.
